Attacks involving lethal violence

The risk of being affected by a terrorist attack or other lethal violence is very small. But if you are affected, it is important to act immediately: run – hide – tell.

Run, hide, tell

Run

  • Leave the area.
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Get to safety.

Hide

  • If you cannot flee — find a safe place.
  • Pay attention to what you see and hear.
  • Stay quiet and turn off sound and vibration on your cell phone.
  • Do not call anyone in the danger zone. Your cell phone signal could give away your hiding place.

Tell

  • Call 112 — tell them where you are and what has happened.
  • Describe the perpetrator(s). What weapons do they have, what do they look like, and where did you last see them?
  • Warn and help others around you.

Keep in mind:

  • Only use your cell phone if you absolutely must. If the cell phone network becomes overloaded, vital calls may have difficulty getting through.
  • Follow the authorities’ instructions.
  • Do not hold anything in your hands when the police arrive at the scene. It may be difficult for the police to determine who is the perpetrator and who is the victim.
  • Be prepared for the possibility of further attacks.
  • Do not spread rumors.

Assessment of the terror threat level

On 23 May 2025, the terror threat level in Sweden was lowered to a three on the scale. The new assessment means that the threat level has been lowered from ‘high threat’ to ‘elevated threat’. The reason for the downgrade is that the threat of attacks from violent extremism is not as high as it has been previously.

If you see a suspicious object, that may be explosives

  • Do not touch the object.
  • Keep a safe distance. Shrapnel can travel several hundred meters.
  • Do not stand at a window and watch.
  • Seek shelter behind sturdy materials such as concrete.
  • Warn others.
  • Alert emergency services and call 112.
