Public service announcement
In the event of less serious incidents that do not pose an immediate threat to life, health, property, or the environment, authorities may request to transmit a Public service announcement. These messages are broadcast locally on Sveriges Radio P4 (Swedish Radio P4).
When are Public service announcements used?
A Public service announcement may be used, for example, for:
- recommendations to boil water due to a water leak or suspected bacteria in the drinking water
- information about where to collect water in the event of problems with the drinking water supply
- disruptions to school transportation during extreme weather conditions
- fire bans during periods of drought.
Public service announcements are broadcast only on the radio
A Public service announcement is broadcast locally on Sveriges Radio P4. The authority, such as a municipality or region, wishing to issue a message to the public contacts the local P4 editorial office or the broadcast control centre in Stockholm.
Under the Electronic Communications Act, location-based text messages may not be sent out in connection with Public service announcements.
