The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow weather warning for snowfall. On Thursday, rain will increasingly turn to snow or sleet. Snowfall may at times be heavy and cause traffic problems, partly due to slippery conditions and poor visibility. The snow is expected to turn largely into slush on the roads quite quickly, as the ground is still relatively warm.
Anyone travelling in the affected areas should allow for longer journey times and adjust their speed to suit the road conditions and visibility. There may also be delays or cancellations to public transport services.
At temperatures close to zero degrees, there is also a risk of disruption to electricity and telecoms networks in areas with overhead cables.
