2G and 3G networks are being shut down

The problem currently only affects customers of Telenor, Tele2 and Tre, as Telia will continue to operate its 2G network until 2027. The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority, which is responsible for regulating this sector, has required the operators to contact the affected customers immediately.

If your phone is one of those that cannot reach 112:

• Your operator should have contacted you.
• Your phone was blocked at some point between 1 December 2025 and 2 February 2026.
• You need to replace your phone or switch to a different operator (but check that they can solve your problem).

Emergency number 112 after the shutdown

• The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) has decided that the operators Tre, Telenor and Tele 2 must, by 2 February 2026, block mobile phones that are unable to reach 112 via the operators’ own networks.
• For phones that require a specific action – such as removing the SIM card – in order to switch to Telia’s network, this decision will apply from 1 December 2025. This is to ensure that people do not keep phones that cannot be used to contact 112.
• The blocked mobile phones will not be able to be used for any voice services via the mobile network. The PTS decision does not apply to Telia’s customers as they will keep the 2G network until 2027, which means that 112 will continue to function as normal until then
