Advice for blind and partially sighted people

  • Talk to family, friends or carers about what help you might need.
  • Use voice control on your phone. It will make it easier to use.
  • Label your things in Braille or large print.
  • Make a list of important things you need.
  • Save the list on a memory stick or as an audio file.
  • Keep a spare phone or computer in your emergency kit.
  • Have extra reflective vests labelled ‘visually impaired’ and ‘companion’.
  • Keep aids such as Daisy players close by, pocket memories and magnifying glasses.
  • You can bring your guide dog to shelters.
  • Make sure that people close to you know that you may need help if something happens.
