Using social media in emergencies

Rumours and false news can spread fast during emergencies and disasters. Do your best not to share such information. On social media, try to act in a way that does not violate the integrity of those affected.

Be cautious about spontaneously sharing information you have seen only in text messages or on social media. Instead, make sure to follow different media sources as well as the information published by the authorities, in order to get an overview of what is happening.
  • Keep in mind that important and detailed information from the authorities may be delayed during emergencies. What you can do in such situations is to stay calm, follow the instructions from the authorities, and try to help others.
