Continued halt to the Janssen vaccine

The Public Health Agency of Sweden (Folkhälsomyndigheten) has decided to continue to halt the use of the Janssen vaccine in all age groups. The vaccine is not recommended for people under 65, while those over 65 will be getting the vaccine from other manufacturers.

The Janssen Covid-19 vaccine is only recommended for people over the age of 65. The reason for this is the possible connection to blood clots with a low platelet count, which is classified as a very rare but serious side effect. This side effect has mainly been reported among younger people, while older people are at a greatly increased risk of becoming seriously ill or dying as a result of Covid-19.
