Orange wind and snow warning for Lapland mountains

The Swedish Meteorological agency, SMHI, has issued an orange alert for wind and snow in the mountain region of Lapland, Norrbotten county. The authorities advise against going into the alpine region from Wednesday.

Very difficult weather is expected from Wednesday in the mountainous areas of Lapland. An orange level warning has been issued by the authorities. Orange is the second highest level in the warning system.

The authorities advise against any hiking in the area because of strong winds and heavy snowfall. Rescue efforts can be difficult and it can be very difficult to move and set up or anchor tents because of the winds. Reduced visibility makes for big difficulties to orientate and there is a high risk for frostbite.

The warning may be extended and last over Friday, according to SMHI.
