A severe heatwave is expected in large parts of Spain from Saturday 28 June. The heat is expected to last for at least four days and may exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
The Swedish Embassy in Spain has posted a message on its website urging Swedish citizens in the country to check their mobile phones, as the high temperatures may affect mobile networks and the ability to call 112.
The embassy's advice to Swedish citizens in the country:
• Check the coordinates of your location (if you are in a rural area).
• Check where there is mobile phone coverage.
• Think about how you can describe the route to the location if you need to raise the alarm due to a forest fire.
• Remember to leave your contact details and those of others at the location if you raise the alarm. This will enable the emergency services to contact you via the information provided by 112 if they need more details.
• Make sure that everyone with you can describe where you are.
• Follow the advice of the local authorities.
The heatwave is also expected to affect Portugal and Italy. The Swedish embassies in Portugal and Italy refer to the Public Health Agency of Sweden's advice during heatwaves.
