The new assessment means that the threat level has been lowered from ‘high threat’ to ‘elevated threat’. The reason for the reduction is that the threat of attacks from violent extremism is not as high as it has been previously.
The Security Police states on its website that, within the framework of an elevated threat, a terrorist attack may occur. Therefore, authorities and other relevant actors in society must continue to take appropriate security measures and create conditions to reduce the risk of various types of threats.
Sweden is still in a serious security situation that could deteriorate further. On its website, the Security Police states that foreign powers continue to conduct extensive activities that pose a threat to Sweden's security. However, these activities are not considered to be primarily linked to the assessment of the terrorist threat level.
The different levels of the threat scale:
- no identified threat (1)
- limited threat (2)
- elevated threat (3)
- high threat (4)
- very high threat (5)
