Fifth dose of the vaccine for the elderly and at-risk groups

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over. In Sweden, we need to be prepared for an increased spread of COVID-19 during the coming autumn and winter season, writes the Public Health Agency of Sweden, which is recommending a fifth dose of the vaccine for the elderly and at-risk groups.

An additional booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for the coming autumn and winter season for adults aged 65 years or over, as well as people aged 18 or over who are in an at-risk group.

This recommendation is valid from 1 September and covers everyone who is at an increased risk of serious COVID-19 disease. All groups are listed on the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s website.

For adults aged 18–64, the recommendation for three doses of the vaccinate remains in force. But anyone who wants to receive an additional booster dose, dose 4, before the coming season may do so. The regional authorities should provide vaccines for all adults who want to have a fourth dose.

For children aged 12–17, the recommendation for two doses of the vaccine remains in force.
