Orange warning regarding wind and snow in the alpine region
SMHI has issued a orange warning regarding wind and snow in the Northern Lapland mountains. The warning applies from 27 February at 02:00 – 2 Marc at 06:00.
Late night on Monday at bare mountain an increasing westerly or northwesterly wind in combination with snow showers. Risk of storm winds, 25-30 m/s, in the higher mountain parts. Tuesday morning decreasing.
How can this affect me?
- No hiking is recommended in mountainous areas.
- Rescue efforts in mountain environment can be risky and may take a long time.
- Very difficult to move and set up or anchor tents.
- Very difficult to orientate due to severely reduced visibility.
