Orange warning regarding wind and snow in the alpine region

🔶 SMHI has issued an orange warning for wind in combination with snowfall for the northern and the Middle Lapland mountains. The warning is valid January 8 at 00:00 - January 10 at 23:00.

The warning means, among other things, that movement and orientation can be very difficult and there is a high risk of frostbite. The highest wind forces are expected from Monday afternoon to Tuesday evening. Most precipitation is expected in the western/northwestern parts.

How can this affect me?

  • No hiking is recommended in mountainous areas.
  • Rescue efforts in mountain environment can be risky and may take a long time.
  • Very difficult to move and set up or anchor tents.
  • Very difficult to orientate due to severely reduced visibility.
  • High risk of frostbite.
