SE-Alert – Now it is implemented
Initially, SE-Alert will be used in the event of extreme incidents, such as air raid alerts or major gas leaks that pose an immediate threat to the public. You do not need to download an app or register your mobile number in advance, but you do need to update your phone with the latest software.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can still receive IPA via the radio, TV, text messages, apps and outdoor warning signals. SE-Alert is available as a complement to, and alongside, other IPA channels, which means that authorities and other organisations can choose to also use SE-Alert to reach the public in the event of serious incidents.
Tests in September and December 2026
Once SE-Alert is implemented, it will continue to be developed and tested. Two public tests will be carried out – in a specific region in September and nationwide in December. The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency is in dialogue with the county administrative board for the region where the September test will take place.
Facts
SE-Alert reaches all compatible smartphones updated with the latest software located within the geographical area where the public needs to be alerted, regardless of network operator. A warning alarm sounds for 10 seconds and the text message appears directly on the screen. The headline will indicate whether it is a IPA or an air raid alert. In the event of an air raid alert, the outdoor warning signal also sound.
