SE-Alert: A New Channel for Important Public Announcements
This summer, SE-Alert will be introduced as yet another channel for disseminating Important Public Announcements to warn and inform the public in the event of accidents, crises, and, in extreme cases, war.
SE-Alert reinforces and complements the existing channels for broadcasting Important Public Announcements (IPA), which currently include radio, TV, text messages, outdoor warning systems (Hesa Fredrik), and the internet.
SE-Alert is based on cell broadcast technology, which can send important alerts to mobile phones in a geographically defined area quickly and efficiently. An IPA then reaches all compatible mobile phones located within the area, regardless of mobile operator, and without the recipient needing to install any app or register their phone number.
You can hear a sample of what the SE-Alert signal sounds like if you watch the government’s press conference.
